I have searched far and wide for Blue Aragonite that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg and when I found these tumbles, I was thrilled. Ecstatic, I tell you. These tumbles are really unique. Not just due to the stone, but because they’re all shaped like small specimens rather than tumbles.
Aragonite gets overlooked when it comes to other mineral families like quartz or its stable form, Calcite. But it’s a powerful ally with a variety of formations. Perhaps the most telling clue one can have as to Aragonite’s capabilities lies in the fact that a bunch of marine life is actually made of it.
Coral skeletons, clams, snails all form their structural support (shells for the latter two) and protection from Aragonite. Pearls form from Aragonite. The mollusk, chiton, forms lenses in its eyes out of aragonite. In general, Aragonite embodies a powerful balance of water and earth, and offers powerful support to our vital systems. It’s incredibly stabilizing for mood and our chakras.
Blue Aragonite is one of the most stunning Aragonites out there. It is a stone of physical, emotional, and mental healing - with a powerful synergy with the throat chakra. It’s a great one to carry in your pocket.
This is an excellent sleep stone for insomniacs and to dissipate nightmares. Place one under your pillow or on your night stand after asking it to hold space for your sleeping self. It will help you make sense of your dreams.
It’s also a psychic development stone, but one that reminds you to use your psychic self to aid others.
True Blue Aragonite is pretty rare. Most of what is called Blue Aragonite on the market is actually Caribbean Calcite. The two minerals are related, but distinct. Carribean Calcite contains Blue Aragonite, but Blue Aragonite doesn’t contain Calcite. Calcite and Aragonite are the basically composed of the same mineral - Calcium Carbonate - but they have different crystal and crystal lattice structures, with calcite possessing a trigonal structure and aragonite an orthorhombic one.
Calcium carbonate typically forms into calcite, but in sea water it forms into aragonite. Blue Aragonite is found near ancient seabeds that are now arid. The blue in Blue Aragonite comes from a mix of copper and iron, whereas the blue in Caribbean Calcite mainly comes from Blue Calcite. These tumbles are actual Blue Aragonite.
I separated this batch into 3 ‘grades’. AAA grade are really unique pieces, often on the bigger side, with a lovely gem blue or a slight cave of druzy in them. AA are similar but not as big. A grade are the same as AA, but smaller. Please note that this is an arbitrary system and not based on any official method, because an official method doesn’t for these.
Even if you care nothing for crystal healing or woo, you should have one of these. They’re fascinating, uncommon, and pretty as hell.
