The combination of Lepidolite and Pink Tourmaline is one of forgiveness and kindness to oneself. Elephants preserve the knowledge of the Earth, and what good is a famously long memory if you don’t develop the skill of being kind to yourself? This piece was designed to be a heart healer.

This carving was made from a piece of Lepidolite and Pink Tourmaline found in the famous Pala Chief Mine in the 1980’s that was in my personal collection.

Every time I looked at it, it wanted to be carved. I initially just smoothed and shaped it to stand straight up, and then the elephant within it jumped out at me. (Luckily, I dodged just in time and coaxed the elephant back into the stone.)

The carving flows out from the left side of the elephant’s face, which is formed from completely natural fractures that are left intact except for a bit of smoothing over.

The broken left trunk is a nod to Ganesha. If you work with Ganpati, this carving would make a perfect idol.
